Terms of use
Short version: cogito-mem is free, open-source software that runs on your computer. Use it as you like, under the MIT license. It comes with no warranty.
The software
cogito-mem (Cogi) is made by Meridian21Lab and released under the MIT license. You may use, copy, change and share it, for personal or commercial work, at no cost. The license is the full legal text; this page says the same in plain words.
No account, no service
cogito-mem runs on your computer. We run no server for it and hold none of your data, so we can't see, recover or delete what it stores. Privacy has the details.
No warranty
cogito-mem is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind. A memory can miss something or bring back something out of date, so check what matters. To the extent the law allows, Meridian21Lab is not liable for any loss or damage that comes from using it.
Your part
- Use it lawfully, and follow your organization's rules on keeping chat history.
- You are responsible for what you store, including anything about other people in your conversations.
- Keep a copy of anything you can't afford to lose: your memory is one folder,
~/.cogito-mem/.
Other people's parts
Setup downloads three parts made by others, each under its own license: llama.cpp (MIT), the EmbeddingGemma 2 model (Apache 2.0) and numpy (BSD). Claude and Claude Code are Anthropic's products, under Anthropic's terms. cogito-mem is an independent project, not made or endorsed by Anthropic.
